Dear SAU 90 Staff and Families,
This morning, while attending the New Hampshire School Administrators Association monthly meeting in
Concord, we had the opportunity to hear Haydin Simmons, a fifth grader from Timberlane, and the 2023 Kid Governor for New Hampshire speak. Haydin’s platform centered around poverty and hunger and the belief that we can make a difference. She also reminded us of how the Kid Governor is chosen through an election process, which is a national award-winning civics program led by the New Hampshire Institute for Civics Education and the New Hampshire Institute of Politics. In conclusion, Haydin reminded us that a “simple act of kindness can change someone’s life!” It certainly was an uplifting message and a great way to end our first full week of school.
Currently, students are participating in STAR Assessments, universal screeners, and varying assessments so that we have a better understanding of their present levels of performance. This data will be used to guide improvement efforts and instructional decision-making. It is our greatest wish to make learning meaningful for your child. If you have any questions throughout the school year, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal. We value our partnership with all of you as we strive to educate the whole child.
As we gear up for fall sports, a friendly reminder that all athletes must have a current physical on file with the health office. Additionally, under the new laws, we must have parental consent for our nurses to treat students. Please remember to return all paperwork sent home the first week of school. This includes all free and reduced lunch forms. Under the new guidelines, more families will be eligible to participate in our lunch program at either a free or reduced rate. Please see the attachment and return this promptly.
A reminder that next Wednesday, September 20th, is an in-service day for staff. During that time, staff will be involved with required training, including the prevention and awareness of suicide and the New Hampshire Division for Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) required reporting. For your future planning, SAU 90 will be hosting a substitute training on Thursday, September 28, beginning at 9:00 AM at the Marston School. We encourage all our substitutes or anyone interested in substitute teaching in our district to attend. Also, on September 28, we will be hosting a parent information evening on signs of suicide with Connors Climb at Hampton Academy beginning at 7:00 PM.
Unfortunately, Party on the Park has been canceled for tomorrow due to the impending storm. We know how hard the PTA worked to plan these events for our community. We appreciate all of you and look forward to other gatherings later this year. In the meantime, let’s all fill out those PTA Membership Forms and show our support. Remember, the Mum sale is in progress, too!
We are pleased to welcome Patrice Baker to our district. SAU 90 and SAU 21 have partnered to bring an Early Intervention Outreach Specialist to our district. Her role is to work with parents of children from newborn to preschool while providing support and resources to our youngest learners. Early intervention is critical as we think about “littles” entry to school as it relates to life-long success. She is pleased to offer our families Mind in the Making Learning Modules.
